A Letter of COM 200: Interpersonal Communication Instructor Joseph Tomassini July 8, 2011 Dear Sara and Tim, My advice to you for a successful relationship is to be open and honest with each other about how you feel. It starts by identifying barriers to effective interpersonal communication. In fact, being open and honest with your significant other is very important in not creating problems later on the relationship. When you are honest you build trust. It is important to learn to apologize for your wrong doings in the relationship. Be sincere and genuine when youââ¬â¢re saying sorry. It is important to maintain your individuality in the relationship. If your spouse or partner says something to hurt your feelings, be open and talk it out. If you need more help with communication in your marriage you can seek counseling. It can be beneficial. Marriage is an adjustment between two people getting married Communication can cause a relationship to succeed or fail. If you do not share how you feel, it can cause your partner to withdraw. Listening can save a relationship. Schonberg (2011) found that ââ¬Å"affective affirmation ââ¬âbasically, behavior that makes your partner feel loved cared for or special plays a role in a happy marriage and those men need it more than women. There are several factors and problems that can cause marriage to either succeed or fail. It is important to discuss problem things left unsaid can cause your partner to with draw. Listening to your partner can save your marriage. If you and your partner have an agreement give each other time to cool down. It is important to fight constructively. There is no marriage free of conflict. Conflicts can and will arise from time to time it is to be expected. Conflict can stem from finances, children, and jobs.
